Halloween can be a great time to let your imagination go wild when it comes to home décor. This week, feel free to spice up your favorite rooms with crazy linens and fabrics, tons of bright fall colors, and maybe even some spooky accent pieces or fake cobwebs. Really the choices are up to you, but if you’re interested in really making your home look like a haunted mansion just in time for the trick or treaters, here are a few tips:

First off, try making your home look spooky by swapping out your regular light bulbs for colored or darker ones. The low or colored lights are sure to set the mood for a haunted house. Plus, they’re an unexpected touch in your home for trick or treaters.

Speaking of trick or treaters, give them a good scare by building or purchasing a fake coffin. Set it up on a table in your front room or on your porch and fill it up with Halloween candy. Your trick or treaters will love this scary yet fun touch.

Also, if you’re interested in making your home look even creepier, try putting up fake cobwebs and utilizing props like plastic skulls, bats, spiders, or bubbling cauldrons. Any local Halloween or craft supply store is sure to have essentials like these.

Finally, complete the look of your home by swapping out some of your fabrics. Use dark or Halloween themed drapes, curtains, tablecloths, and rugs to add some character to your space while still creating that spooky look that you want for the holiday.

For centuries, the wonderful hobby of woodcarving has delighted peoples around the world. It takes time and patience to learn and develop good woodcarving skills, however, the pieces that result are always worth the wait. There are four main styles of woodcarving and the tools used vary among each style.

Whittling
The oldest style of woodcarving, whittling is done with a basic carving knife. This type of carving also lets you see knife strokes after the carving is completed, which can add a very hand-made, artisan look to the piece.

Carving In The Round
This style gives more of a lifelike surface and texture. Many objects in this style are portrayed as people and animals. The carvings may vary in sizes and can be painted or left natural.

Relief Carving
With relief carving, the carving has a flat back and the image in carved in 3 dimensions. Typical works include sceneries, but any object can be carved and the finished good can be found hanging on a wall or as another type of decorative piece.

Chip Carving
This technique requires you chip or remove selected pieces of wood. Chip carving is also know as kerbschnitzen, which is Swiss for engraving carving.

It’s necessary you choose the style of carving before getting started because you want the proper tools on hand before your project is underway.

Do you have any other carving styles you’d like to share?

Is your laundry room lacking personality?

Is your laundry room lacking personality?

Chances are, if your home is like most, the laundry room is not the most friendly place to be. Often times it is rather dingy, filled with dirty clothes, and smells like laundry detergent or over concentrated bleach. One would think it looks nice once laundry is done but give it a few days and clothes are right back in the same place. Seems like you can never get ahead, right?

At PiazzaPisano.com, we try to spice things up a bit in your laundry room to make it a bit more appealing. We understand it will never be the number one spot on a house tour or a place you’d like to entertain in, but its your home and it deserves to look nice. We have crafted numerous laundry room decoration items that can bring some style to your cluttered laundry area. With our laundry room art, you can put up a decorative sign on otherwise bare walls. By adding these decorative signs, hopefully you can create some order and achieve a nice looking space for washing clothes. You may never be able to rid the room of the over concentrated bleach smell, but you can definitely make it look like it belongs in your home.
